BMW 3 Series Convertible

At the recently held BMW xDrive event in New Delhi (see THIS), BMW India had showcased the 3 Series Convertible in the 330D format. The officials also confirmed that the vehicle will be launched in India by March / April 2012. This also marks a new segment creation for BMW, something that the company is known for in the past with vehicles like the X1. The 3 Series convertible will not be made in India but imported via the CBU (completely Built Units) route which also means it will attaract high custome duties and other taxes!
BMW 3 Series Convertible

The BMW 330D convertible looks like its sibling, the 3 Series Sedan from the front half - the same typical BMW Kidney grille, the lamps and the bumper. The long hood also symbolizes BMW's loyalty to the inherently balanced inline-6 engine and the long wheelbase, short overhangs, the passenger compartment set aft and the low, sleek roofline seamlessly slopes into the trunk -  all characteristics of the retractable hardtop Convertible. The design of the taillights is unique to the BMW 3-Series Convertible and feature two-piece L-shapes and are accentuated by a new color scheme. Horizontal LED tube taillights give the car an unmistakable look at night.

The cabin is agan typical of the 3 Series Sedan range. Because the Convertible is a four-passenger cars, the rear seat passengers are treated to a center console between their individual rear seats which includes individual storage boxes, additional air outlet vents, and footwell lights. The convertible comes standard with Dark Burl Walnut wood trim and has a choice of Bamboo Anthracite wood, Light Burl Walnut wood, and Aluminum trim. As expected, the knee room at the rear isnt really generous, especially with tall individuals seated up front.

Not many know that BMW is the first carmaker in the world to use sun-reflective technology. This is done to mitigate temperatures on leather seating, armrest surfaces, headrests, and gear shifter. The process uses modified color pigments imbedded in the leather during the production process to reflect the infrared radiation of the sun in wavelengths of more than 720 nanometers. This leather treatment is able to reduce surface temperatures on dark interior colors by up to 20 Celsius degrees (36 Fahrenheit degrees), and also offers advantages on light-colored upholstery, where the heating effect of sunshine is less severe, reducing the surface temperature by as much as 15 Celsius degrees (27 Fahrenheit degrees). All other qualities of the leather remained unchanged
India will get the 330D version that comes with a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder diesel and generates 245bhp power with 520Nm of torque. This will be mated to a 7 speed automatic double clutch gearbox. Expect prices to start at around Rs 35 lakh mark.
