Volkswagen Touareg

Editorial Test Drive Review of Volkswagen Touareg

Shown at the 2012 Auto Expo, the new Touareg has been launched. The Touareg looks butch and muscular. contains 18 inch “Karakum” alloy wheels, roof rails, panoramic sunroof and bi xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights. The new Touareg is now 41mm longer, 12 mm wider and has the characteristic VW design traits too.The horizontal band - consisting of the relatively flat grille, the VW logo integrated there and the trapezoidal headlights - defines the superior character of the Touareg and is at the same time a key element of the vehicle's Design DNA. Like the front end, the rear of the new VW Touareg is also marked by horizontal lines. At the top, the tailgate has a spoiler that was styled to aerodynamic criteria, which simultaneously extends the roof section visually. The large rear window extends into the D pillars; the tailgate can be automatically opened by an electric motor as an option.
The interiors are also stuffed with features like wood inserts, climatronic AC with 4 zone temperature control, audio system with MP3 and MP4 compatibility and integrated 6CD-changer & 8 speakers, four corner air-suspension with electronic shock absorption control and 14 way electrically adjustable front seats. The new interior is made more functional, the seats more comfortable and leg room in the rear is larger. The Touareg will be available as an FBU equipped with a 3 litre V6 TDI engine that delivers a maximum power of 245PS@3800-4400rpm and torque of 550NM@1750-2250rpm.  It has a top speed of 218 km/h and accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds. In all Volkswagen Touareg versions, a new 8-speed automatic transmission is being used - an advanced development of the previous 6-speed automatic transmission. That makes this Volkswagen the first SUV in the world with this type of transmission. The automatic is designed for engine torques of up to 850 Newton-metres. That makes this Volkswagen the first SUV in the world with this type of transmission. The automatic is designed for engine torques of up to 850 Newton-metres. Due to the two additional gear levels, a 20 percent larger gearing spread can be attained between 1st and 8th gears. It has mileage of 12.08 kmpl. The new Touareg comes with standard all wheel drive and in the sport mode it tunes the Electronic Stabilization Programme (ESP) for off road duty , activates hill descent assist and adjusts shift points for the automatic gearbox allowing the driver to experience off road at its best. Volkswagen has further developed the Volkswagen Touareg's running gear with independent suspensions at all four wheels on the second generation of the  SUV. The ride is much better now. In a rather quiet entry, the new Touareg will be available to customers in the diesel variant in automatic transmission, at Rs. 58.5 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. For a detailed analysis read below
